NY Times series about veterans of the wars on Iraq and Afghanistan The New York Times has a series of pieces about veterans of the wars on Iraq and Afghanistan who, after returning to the US, have murdered. The murder victims are generally spouses, family members, or girlfriends. The articles also highlight how the US military does not taken violence perpetrated by service members seriously – a long standing, ongoing, huge problem. “[An examination by The Times found more than 150 cases of fatal domestic violence or child abuse in the United States involving service members and new veterans during the wartime period that began in October 2001 with the invasion of Afghanistan.”

This particular article begins with yet another murder of a spouse that could have been prevented by the Army following its own guidelines for a sergeant who was already facing charges. The article goes on to highlight many a great many problems in the military’s response to domestic violence such as illegal deployments to Iraq of service members who have been convicted of felony domestic violence.
