July 06, 2007 Police: Man beats ex-girfriend, shoots self in hand
Jones TAMPA -- After knocking his ex-girlfriend to the ground outside a 7-Eleven late Thursday, police said Tarvaris M. Jones, 39, pistol-whipped the woman across her face and body.
Then he accidentally put a bullet through his left hand and tried to drive away in a blood-spattered white Chevrolet Suburban.
Aided by a police helicopter, officers caught up with Jones at his family's home a W Violet Street near N Florida Avenue after he tossed the .380 caliber handgun out the window.
The victim, Latasha Nicole Heart, was treated for minor injuries to the face and head.
Jones was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital where he awaits multiple charges, including aggravated battery with a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, aggravated stalking and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
